These spotwelding tips come in various sizes that correspond to various thicknesses of sheet materials. The "nose" of the tip passes through the upper sheet and into the lower sheet. The tip should be selected based on the thinner sheet dimension, and the horn tip should approach from the thinner sheet side of the assembly. The flash ring on the tip provides a spot weld that looks much like a blind rivet. Properly done, a spot weld using this technique is not visible from the non-horn-contact side of the assembly. Rapid tip wear should be expected if used on glass-filled or abrasive materials.
Consult the Dukane horn catalog for specifics on tip sizing.
Replaceable tips are not recommended for high volume production.
